Monday + Echo Park + RAK Winner = A Good Start for the Week

This year is really speeding by fast. Can you believe its almost June? I can't. Time for baseball games, Fort Worth's Concerts In The Park series, musical ice cream trucks, blockbuster movies, and The Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington. Lots of stuff to do.

This weekend I found some time to scrap. I bought two Echo Park collections (Playground & Little Boys) from the Paper Issues Etsy shop and they were calling out for some attention. Playground was the perfect choice for the Punky Scrap #16 challenge using three small photos of my nephew at soccer practice. The pics were taken last October while I was visiting. He did such a good job of listening to his coach and following the rules. I was beaming with pride.

For this layout, I used two Glimmer Mists and Liquitex ink along with a few splatters of yellow acrylic paint. The background paper is the last piece of Bazzill's white dotted swiss in my stash, sure hope I can reload at GASC! Also pulled out the Cricut and cut a few star bursts out of kraft paper (and a frame). The title was made with EP Playground letter stickers applied to black cardstock and cut out.
Products used: Bazzill dotted swiss cardstock white, Echo Park (Kick the Can paper, Tag journaling card, alpha stickers, element stickers), Queen & Co. ribbon, May Art web ribbon, kraft paper, brads, Tsukineko dye ink, acrylic paint, Liquitex acrylic ink lime, Tattered Angels mists (Lemon Zest & Candlelight)

And now its time to announce the RAK winner...drum roll, please....Kate B...give me a buzz with your mailing address, pretty please. Congrats.

That's it for today, thanks for stopping by.

October Afternoon and a RAK from moi...

That's right. Today's manu du jour is October Afternoon and I'll bring the dessert! I found some long lost photos and realized that OA's Seaside would be the perfect choice.

This first layout I'm posting for Punky Scraps #15 challenge using paint, twine, stitching, stamping, and no cardstock.

I did a little dry brushing with white acrylic paint for a sun-washed look and couldn't resist getting out the old bubble wrap for a little stamping action. Also used my groovy little Bazzill Basics Border template to help me with the stitching. For added interest, I doodled a simple black outline on the two outer photos.

Products used: Seaside; Seashells,Swim Trunks, 5 & Dime; Rock Candy patterned papers
Seaside shape stickers, Garden Variety Journal stickers, Hometown Journal card
Other products: kraft paper, misc. ribbon, baker's twine, paint, embroidery floss, Stamper's Anonymous (Tim H collection) stamps, Tsukineko dye ink, Maya Road trinket pin (star), sea shell

For the next layout, I was inspired by this sketch on the October Afternoon blog. A super simple sketch.

The photos were distressed with sandpaper and I altered the chair with some microbeads.

Products used: OA's Seaside and Farm Fresh patterned papers, Seaside stickers, Hometown letter stickers, Tim Holtz overlay film strip, KI softie frame, brads and dry wall tape.

And didn't I mention dessert?! I want to do something sweet, so I've got a few October Afternoon goodies that need a new home. I will random draw and announce a winner on Sunday, May 22nd. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post.

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by.

Remembering My Grandmother.....

...on Mother's Day. She died last year so this is our first Mother's Day without her. I decided to make a simple mini featuring a few favorite recipes that she had published in church and Eastern Star cookbooks. I gave it to my mom this morning and got an "awwwww, Kimbo, I love it" out of her.

Maxine (that's what I called her) was the baker of the family. Her desserts were always killer.

I don't know where she got it from because her mother couldn't cook worth a lick, bless her heart.

Maybe my grandad's mother gave her some pointers. Now THAT woman could cook up a storm. Best fried chicken and coconut cake with 7-minute frosting I'ver ever put in my mouth.

I hope you're able to celebrate Mother's Day with family. Or maybe your family will be doing all of the tributes to you instead. Possibly all you're doing this weekend revolves around National Scrapbook Day. Regardless, have a beautiful weekend.

And thanks for stopping by.

At Paper Issues,Its Party Time

I love May. Its still cool enough to enjoy going to the ballpark. Flowers are blooming and the trees are that bright almost lime green color. Memorial Day...Mother's Day...Cinco de Mayo...and my favorite, National Scrapbooking Day. I'm getting in gear for NSD, I've ordered some Echo Park from PI's Etsy shop and I've registered here for a free on-line crop. I'm ready to CELEBRATE!

Which brings us back to Paper Issues. The new link party is all about parties and celebrations. So show us your stuff, so join the fun and link your paper pretties.

Thanks for stopping by.
